Today is a big day for space enthusiasts. Blue Origin, the Jeff Bezos-backed aerospace company, completed its first human spaceflight since August of 2022. The six crew members included were Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth L. Hess, Carol Schaller, Gopi Thotakura, and former Air Force Captain Ed Dwight.
Captain Ed Dwight’s story is quite significant, as he was originally selected by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 as the nation’s first black astronaut candidate. Sixty-three years later at ninety years old, Ed finally got to fly. This is Blue Origin’s seventh successful human spaceflight launch in the “New Shephard” reusable suborbital launch vehicle.
