Watch: Massive 7.0 Earthquake Triggers Volcanic Eruption, And Scientists Aren’t Sure It’s Over


On August 18, 2024, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka region. Experts are stating that there is no threat of a tsunami, yet another very real threat has emerged in response to the quake. The Shiveluch volcano, located on the Kamchatka peninsula, experienced an eruption shortly after the earthquake struck. Luckily, no reports of damage or injuries have surfaced from this incident.





While the damage from this incident has been minimal, volcanologists from the Russian Academy of Sciences aren’t sure that the danger is over. Experts have warned that a second, possibly more powerful, earthquake may follow today’s events. The Shiveluch volcano last erupted on April 11, 2023, and has been an active volcano for the past 10,000 years.
