On July 3, 2024, Hurricane Beryl swept through Jamaica with 115 mile per hour winds and heavy rainfall; it caused excessive damage and has killed at least 9 people. Now Beryl has its sights set on the Gulf of Mexico and its surrounding areas.
Where exactly is Beryl expected to make landfall in the Gulf? The hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm after predicted wind speeds dropped from 110 miles per hour. The entire Yucatan Peninsula is now facing a tropical storm warning, with wind speeds predicted to reach up to 70 miles per hour. There is also expected to be heavy rainfall, with some areas in the Gulf potentially receiving up to 8 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Certain areas in Texas are facing similar warnings, with Houston, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville all lying within the cone of uncertainty. Texas will take the brunt of the storm on Sunday night, leading into Monday. It is important for anybody in potential immediate or future danger to take steps to safeguard themselves and any loved ones from the storm.
