On July 21, 2024, President Joe Biden announced in a post on Twitter (X) that he will not be accepting the Democratic nomination and will not be seeking reelection in 2024. This is a historical moment, as this has not happened since Lyndon B. Johnson made the same move in 1968.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
In an interesting twist, President Biden has decided to lend his full support and endorsement to his vice president, Kamala Harris. Harris sought her own election alongside the Biden campaign in 2020, but came to a rather screeching halt. It seems that she’s getting a second chance.
President Biden’s endorsement is actually quite significant, as that means she will be inheriting all of the Biden campaign funds. According to Politico, that means she’s getting over $96 million. In fact, the Biden campaign has already formally renamed itself “Harris for President,” according to FEC documents. The 2024 election cycle has barely begun and is already quite interesting.

(2024, July 21). My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.
