On August 14, 2024, Tropical Storm Ernesto was upgraded to a hurricane shortly after wreaking havoc on Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas. The storm is currently just north of the U.S. territory and is headed on a north-northwest path. It is currently expected to avoid the east coast of the United States entirely. Bermuda now faces a hurricane watch as Ernesto barrels down on the small island.
Puerto Rico is currently recovering from the massive rainfall and flooding, as nearly half of the entire territory was without power following the storm. That’s more than 640,000 people completely in the dark, not to mention the toll on emergency services. “I know it was a long night listening to that wind howl,” commented Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. Anybody facing any danger from this storm should be prepared for the worst.
