On October 1, 2024, Iran launched at least 180 missiles into Israel, striking numerous areas. Reports indicate that many of the missiles were successfully intercepted. It is not currently clear how many targets were successfully hit. Videos circulating on social media show multiple barrages of missiles raining down from the sky, painting the horizon with fire. Only one person has reportedly been killed, but this is subject to change.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Israel will respond to these attacks. Iran’s armed forces joint chief of staff, General Mohammad Bagheri, has vowed that Iran will take increasingly intense actions against Israel if they respond. This is surely starting to look like a war between Israel and Iran. The tension in the Middle East continues to boil.
